Goalkeepers and defenders

6. It was a difficult game to judge FF on, considering he didn’t face a huge amount of chances and those he did have to deal with were dealt  with comfortably. He did have big blunder in the second half, spilling a free-kick, which could’ve led to a West Brom goal.. Goalkeeper. Southampton. FRASER FORSTER

7.5. Bertrand had a much better game that he has of late, and he was heavily involved throughout. He hit the post with a deflected free-kick and fizzed in several good crosses.. Left-back. Southampton. RYAN BERTRAND

Centre-back. Southampton. VIRGIL VAN DIJK. 6.5. Virgil van Dijk had a solid game defensively, containing Solomon Rondon and making good runs forward from the back. What limits his match rating is that he tried right-footed lofted passes on several occasions, with precious little ever finding a man.

7. Yoshida had another solid game at the back, making his fair amount of challenges and coming close from a Davis corner in the first half. He then tried a spectacular over-head which went just wide. Overall solid game.. Centre-back. Southampton. MAYA YOSHIDA

Cedric was perhaps one of the worst performers from a relatively solid afternoon for the Saints. He tried several crosses over the course of the game, all of which sailed over the forwards. He was involved a lot but didn’t really produce.. Right-back. Southampton. CEDRIC SOARES. 5
