Leicester City outplayed Southampton in every area of the pitch to the tune of a 4-1 win on Wednesday night.

It was an incredibly flat performance from a Saints side coming off a 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday. Few players looked match-ready.

Turnovers were far too present against a counter-attacking side, and Leicester took advantage after just eleven minutes through Riyad Mahrez.  wo goals would quickly follow from Shinji Okazaki and Andy King to put Southampton on their heels.

Mauricio Pellegrino brought on Manolo Gabbiadini at halftime to try and generate an attack. The Saints would show initiative and cut the lead to 1-3 with a goal from Maya Yoshida on a corner kick.

Not long after, Charlie Austin had a chance to turn the entire game around on a great cross from Ryan Bertrand. Only to be denied by an even better save from Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. After a brief momentum swing in Southampton’s favor, Okazaki sent Saints fans to the exits.  Netting his second goal from a Jamie Vardy cross.

It was an extremely disappointing game from Southampton’s perspective. With a trip to Chelsea looming this weekend, they will need to put this game behind them quickly.

Here are the player ratings from Wednesday night’s match.
