According to a report from TeamTalk.com, Charlie Austin rejected a move to West Brom and would like to see his contract out at Southampton.

The 30-year-old striker, who seemingly does not have a place on the team, is happy riding out his contract for the last 12 months and moving on after his deal is up.

West Brom, was looking for a replacement for another former Saint, Jay Rodriguez, who joined his former club Burnley. The deal was agreed upon between the two clubs but it was Austin who derailed the transfer and now no longer on a move from the South Coast.

Hopefully, the club can convince Austin that a move would be in everyone’s best interest and the club could use the money to sign a new defender the club desperately needs.

The Saints will be making their return from Austria, a trip that Austin was not included on, and the next few days will be interesting to see if the Striker rejoins the team and starts training with them.

The start of the Premier League season is now closer than ever and the club need to sort out some final business before the transfer window closes until January. It would not be a good look for the club if they are not able to trim some of the fat at the club and just have players who do nothing but collect their weekly wages and give nothing in return.

Personally, I would like to see a couple more players sold before anything else and that should be the focus of the board to get these deals across the line.

What the club could do with the money they generate from selling these players could be really helpful down the line and turn an ok squad into a much better one.
