Southampton played a tough game against one of the world’s toughest opponents Friday night. In the end, they were outmatched by Manchester United, falling 2-0 behind a pair of Zlatan Ibrahimovic goals, but despite the frustrating result there is still cause for optimism. Team captain Jose Fonte returned to action after an extended Euro break and amid swirling speculation as to his departure, and the squad were tested with adversity for the first time of probably several this season.
