Preston’s Pick: Jay Rodriguez/Shane Long

Long didn’t feature vs. Burnley and has yet to score this season for Southampton, but bagged one on international duty and should be fresh to play Thursday. J-Rod did a light shift Sunday vs Burnley and acquitted himself well, though he was unable to find the goal against his old club. After playing 70 minutes Sunday, Charlie Austin will almost certainly have the day off but may be a late sub. Expect Claude Puel to bring Southampton U23 forward Olufela Olomola along, but I doubt he’ll get anything other than a taste of the atmosphere.

Hickson’s Pick: Charlie Austin

He’s scored 7 goals in 6 games for Southampton and is on fire at the moment. Inter Milan have conceded 8 goals in their last 4 games (shocking stat really!) and confidence is therefore very low. People will, however, argue over whether he should be rested or not, but with Inter their for the taking, I personally think he should start!
