After a historic midweek win against Inter Milan in the UEFA Europa League, Southampton are set to visit Hull City at the KCOM Stadium.
Southampton fell to Chelsea 2-0 at St. Mary’s last weekend. The Saints bounced back when they faced Inter Milan and secured a valuable three points after defeating the Italians 2-1. Saints’ defender Virgil van Dijk impressed the supporters again with his defensive efforts and his goal that brought Southampton level.
Hull City was less fortunate last weekend when they lost to Watford 1-0 at Vicarage Road. The Tigers have lost their preview five league matches and currently sit in the relegation zone. Hull also currently has the worst goal differential in the Premier League.
While the Saints are flying high and the Tigers and still struggling to get off of the ground, the Southampton faithful will expect that their side can do a number on Hull. All eyes should be kept on Nathan Redmond to shine in this match.
With his blistering pace, Redmond will hope to wreak havoc on Hull’s backline. Redmond is one of Southampton’s leading goal scorers, with three goals in the league so far, and he averages the most shots per game (besides Jérémy Pied, who had three shots in his only appearance). If the Saints score this weekend, do not be surprised if Redmond bags at least one goal.
These two sides did not face each other in the Premier League last season as Hull was still in the Championship. The Saints however have won the last six fixtures between the two.
Saints boss Claude Puel will hope that his side can continue its good form when they visit the KCOM Stadium.
"“They need points, but for us it’s the same thing,” Puel said. “It’s a very important game and I hope we can go there with a good feeling, a good attitude, and a good aggressivity to play this game… Hull City is good in defense, quality, strong, and they try to play football. They play at home, in front of their fans, and it will be important to give a good answer. It’s always difficult to play against this team and all these teams in general.”"
