Southampton Saints midfielder Oriol Romeu has resigned with the squad until the 2021 season.

Romeu came to the Saints for the 2015-16 season from Chelsea and has improved and become a fan favorite. A La Masia graduate from the famous Barcelona Academy Romeu has played for the Spanish National Team.

With Southampton he has already won two player of the month awards for best player, according to fans of the team. Under Puel he has flourished in that central midfielder role, similar to Busquets at Barcelona.

Romeu said: “I couldn’t be any happier to have this new contract with the club. “Ever since I came here I have felt very, very good. Everything has been positive for me. I have developed myself and been getting better every day.”

The Executive Director of Football Les Reed added: “We’re delighted that Oriol has extended his commitment to Southampton Football Club. “We’re confident he will continue to build on what has been an impressive 18 months since he joined us from Chelsea.”

Romeu has proven to be a sturdy defensive midfielder. At the age of 25 he still can improve and can be a great player for the club. A couple of his characteristics are ball interception and tackling skill. If the club continues with his good play he could be in the Saints midfield for a long while.
