Signing a centre-back from a relegation-threatened team like Crystal Palace might seem like a barbaric move, but it shouldn’t be rejected without thought.

Scott Dann might also boast five own-goals to his name from his years in England’s top flight, but he’s also proved to be vital for his side since joining them in January 2013.

The 30-year-old joined Palace’s ever-growing list of injured players at the weekend and therefore didn’t feature in his side’s loss to the Saints last night, but is still a player the Saints should consider over the summer months.

Dann has scored at least four goals in all competitions in each of his three full seasons for the London-based side, and averages a goal ever 10 games for them in the league.

With Virgil van Dijk linked with a move away and Martin Caceres only signed until the end of the campaign, Claude Puel will be in the market for a new centre-half come season’s end.

Dann will no-doubt be keen to stay in the Premier League should Palace slip down to the relegation zone again, as they face a tough run-in starting with a match against Arsenal this Monday.
