Friday’s Fan Polls is a weekly series in which Saints Marching collects all of their daily Twitter polls from the past week and analyzes them all in one place, providing fan thoughts and reaction to all things Southampton FC from the past seven days.

The Saints have had two games since last Saturday alone, as they attempt to catch up after missing Premier League game-weeks through their cup commitments.

In addition, the past seven days have also provided fresh injury updates and a wealth of transfer rumors, leaving a lot for the Southampton fans to think about and discuss.

The Weekend’s Action

Southampton played Bournemouth on Saturday, in what ended as a drab and goalless draw, with only Harry Arter’s penalty miss to note.

With the Cherries now in the Premier League, the media has consistently branded the game between Eddie Howe’s side and Claude Puel’s as a ‘derby’, but that Saints fans don’t seem to agree.

The two teams have only faced off a handful of times in modern history, and fans of Southampton aren’t keen to pen it as a true south coast derby just yet, despite the fact that just 30 miles or so separate the two clubs.

The weekend’s media also continued to speculate about Virgil van Dijk’s future among others, with suggestions that both the Dutchman and left-back Ryan Bertrand were being targeted by champions-elect Chelsea.

However, it seems like Southampton fans are a lot more keen to keep their hands on their team captain in comparison to the English full-back, with the latter amassing just a handful of votes in the weekend’s other main poll.

Manolo Gabiaddini has seemingly instantly made himself a vital cog in the works, with as many as 20 people voting for the Italian to stay instead of van Dijk.
