Monday to Wednesday’s Polls

With the Saints and the rest of the Premier League heading for a full mid-week set of fixtures, Monday’s poll brought about the obvious question with the Claude Puel’s team set to face off against Crystal Palace on the Wednesday.

Sam Allardyce’s side were in fine form and were going into the match-up against Southampton fresh off the back of a win against league-leading Chelsea, so Saints fans weren’t too hopeful.

Interestingly, the game ended 3-1 in favor of the Saints, meaning the general pessimism among the fans of the south coast side was completely unneeded.

Despite the 40 percent vote for a loss, there was no outright winner in this poll, with at least ten people voting for each category ahead of the game.

That contrasts greatly to the fans’ opinion regarding their back-up right-back. Cuco Martina is arguably the most notable player to have his contract expiring in the summer, presuming you don’t count the yet-to-feature Martin Caceres.

The apparent general consensus among Saints fans is that the 27-year-old should depart the club on a free in the summer.

Martina was always signed to play second-fiddle to Cedric but despite that has still failed to impress a vast majority of fans, who now seem keen that the club don’t agree to fresh terms with him.

To a lighter note however as after the Saints came away with the points against Palace they shot back up the Premier League table to ninth. They still have two games in hand on several of the teams around them, leaving them with a strong chance of finishing in the top half.

This weekend the Saints play West Brom, the team seven points above them, giving them a realistic shot of maybe even snatching eighth place which would be even more of an achievement.

Puel has seemingly had his critics in recent months but his tinkering and rotation has worked out in the fans eyes as we hit crunch time.
