Jay Rodriguez

Rodriguez has been hindered by injury for the good majority of his prime. A player who was once leading most headlines of the major papers only a couple years back, his days at St. Mary’s should be numbered. Inconsistent role play is not the type of football that the Englishman should be seeing. Especially at this point in his career.

The former Burnley man still has something left in him, ranking 24th in the premier league scoring a goal every 184 minutes. He only has 700 minutes under his belt this season compiling 4 goals and 3 assists.

This type of season has only caused negative production and looks to put his potential on standstill for the time being. It may be time for Jay Rodriguez to find a new home, especially with the crowded front line consisting of Manolo Gabbiadini, Shane Long, and Charlie Austin.

Rodriguez also doesn’t seem to fit Puel’s new tactics that he has brought into the organization. He doesn’t seem to have a position that fits him in a way that suits his strengths. We will not get the best out of Rodriguez going forward.

His inconsistent play in our new tactics should be a strong reason for us to move on from Rodriguez. He may be a popular player for Southampton, but if you truly think about this with your mind instead of your heart, you will realize that he is not the player he once was, and will need to find regular football somewhere else.
