Young midfielder James Ward-Prowse has been rewarded for his stellar efforts for the Saints across the month of March, with the club confirming that he has been named their Player of the Month.

The side only played two games in the whole month due to re-arranged fixtures and an international break, but the young Englishman’s run began way before March and has continued now into April.

Ward-Prowse played 78 minutes as the Saints beat Watford 4-3 on the 4th March, in a game which saw the 22-year-old complete around 80 percent of his attempted passes and land a single shot on target.

In the following loss to Tottenham Hotspur, JWP produced a man of the match performance as one of the shining stars of the defeat, with his goal giving Southampton a chance of snatching a point.

He also ended with another 80 percent passing success rate for the game, whilst also adding two key passes and and converting his only shot on goal thanks to a Ryan Bertrand assist.

On winning the award, Ward-Prowse told the club’s official site:

“I think there are a few other lads that also could have won it, so it is obviously a nice personal accolade.

“There were two tough games during that month but I am obviously very pleased to get the award. It’s a month I will definitely remember.”

The award adds to what was an immensely successful March for the academy graduate, as he also made his senior England debut against Germany.

Playing alongside teammate Nathan Redmond, Ward-Prowse came on with just under ten minutes to go in the friendly.

The England U-21 captain has featured heavily in the Saints team as of late, starting every game since the 14th January.

In his last seven games he has been directly involved with a goal on four occasions, and has since taken his goal tally to four for the season – more than his previous two combined.
