Southampton’s Player Awards night takes place on Thursday 4th May. With various awards available on the night, it’s a good time to run through 5 potential candidates for the top gongs.

Last year Virgil van Dijk ran away with the award in a year where anyone could’ve taken the accolade. Shane Long enjoyed a stellar season whilst Sadio Mane was also among the goals and could’ve easily taken it home himself.

Goals-wise there isn’t as much choice this season but that doesn’t mean that the list of potential candidates is any shorter than the 2015/16 season’s.

Saints Marching’s Conor Smith now takes a look at the five players with a serious shot at the annual prize.
