In an exclusive interview for Saints Marching, Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier sat down with site expert Chris Hughes to discuss all things Saints from the past season and beyond.

The past year at Southampton football club has brought up a host of talking points, with Claude Puel’s first season differing from Mauricio Pochettino’s and Ronald Koeman’s before him.

Fixture congestion and long cup runs have forced the Frenchman to change his tactics and rotate heavily and despite that he has still been plagued by injuries to key players. However, the Saints are still on course for a top-half finish.

With it all-but confirmed that Southampton won’t make a Europa League spot this season, the side will have a much easier start next season, something that intrigues club legend Matt Le Tissier.

He said: “I think some criticism has come because of the lack of goals and the lack of tempo in the side but I think he changed that specifically with all the fixtures leading up to Christmas.

“This season he’s definitely been hamstrung by the amount of games and next year he won’t so it’ll be interesting to see how the team plays.”
