Weighing up the pros and cons of Marco Silva replacing Puel at Southampton
By Chris Hughes
The Negatives
No manager is without fault, Marco Silva included. Should he leave Hull for the Saints or even somewhere else come summer then it’d be his fourth club in as many seasons, making you question the longevity you’d get with the Portuguese man.
He was sacked for his job with Sporting Lisbon for not wearing the club’s official suit in a cup match, and he left the Greek giants Olympiacos for unspecified personal reasons.
Whatever the truth behind the two departures, it suggests more might go on behind the scenes involving Silva. Should he leave Hull this summer it’d be interesting to see how it would play out.
What’s more, the comparisons between himself and Pochettino aren’t necessarily all positive. The Argentinian left the club after just 18 months, and if a bigger club were to come calling for Silva it makes to wonder how much loyalty he would have.
The Saints have had four managers since returning to the Premier League in 2012, and irregardless of the manner in which in they left the club’s turnover is becoming a worrying statistic.
It therefore makes more sense to go for a lower-rated manager in the hope for a manager who stays around for a little longer. Since the turn of the century the Saints have only had three managers amass over 100 games at the helm of the side – two of those came while Southampton were in the Football League.
