If reports are to be believed, then Polish youngster Jan Bednarek will complete his Southampton medical today.
The Saints could seemingly complete their first summer signing in the coming days, with one media outlet suggesting that Jan Bednarek will have a medical at Southampton at some point today.
The centre-back, who plies his trade in his native country for Lech Poznan, is one of many young talents Southampton scouts are believed to be watching at this year’s Under-21 European Championships.
It was reported not too long ago that Southampton had had a £6 million bid rejected, which they improved to be in the region of £6.5 million, which was apparently accepted.
The news that Bednarek will have a Southampton medical might come as a surprise based on his international performances, with the 21-year-old getting sent off for two yellow cards against England Under-21’s.
Should Bednarek sign he will become the most expensive player to leave the Polish first division, making it a wise suggestion that he would have some involvement on the first-team squad.
Southampton were forced to use Jack Stephens and Maya Yoshida as a make-shift pairing for the majority of last season, meaning even if they do keep hold of Virgil van Dijk they will likely want to add depth to their defence.
Bednarek played 34 times in all competitions for Poznan, scoring once and enjoying a stellar breakout season following his loan the season before.
