5. Ruben Semedo

In my honest opinion, one of the biggest missed opportunities of the window so far has to be Portuguese central defender Ruben Semedo.

The Portugal Under-21 International had been constantly linked with Saints for the past three seasons. The 23-year-old has amazing potential to become one of the best in football with his defensive instincts and his six-foot-two frame.

But, despite reported interest in him from Southampton , the defender signed with Spanish outfit Valencia for €14 million. In my opinion, this would definitely had been a signing that would strengthen the team with the release of Caceres and the sale of former skipper Fontè.

Obviously, this ‘error of judgement’ in their eyes seems to have been rectified with the signing of Jan Bednarek recently.
