Five missed opportunities for Southampton so far in the transfer window

2. Luiz Gustavo

Yes, maybe this is very much out-there and a tad ambitious but we really missed out on Gustavo. The Brazillian international is a tough and solid midfielder that played his trade out in Germany with Wolfsburg.

There is no solid evidence on whether there was any interest from Saints but in my opinion, there should have been. The midfielder is well experienced and at 29, is in the midst of his prime.

Gustavo ended up signing for French team OL Marseille in a £8.7 million deal. When you think of the state of the market, getting him at that price is an absolute steal.

Imagine the calibre of midfield we could have had with him alongside Oriol Romeu?!
