The Saints have announced that veteran goalkeeper Stuart Taylor will stay on at the club for another season.

36-year-old Stuart Taylor will remain a Saint for at least another season, as the club quite hilariously announced the extension of his contract earlier this evening.

In the modern era of social media presence the evolution of player announcements has grown rapidly, with Chelsea facing criticism for their ’embarrassing’ announcement of Antonio Rudiger’s transfer from Roma.

In order to announce the stopper’s extended contract on the south coast, Southampton and their media team put together a quite brilliant parody in light of the style of recent player announcements.

Taylor has had a fairly controversial career since making his debut at the start of the century, having amassed just 95 appearances in all competitions across his career.

Rather than dropping down below Championship level in order to secure serious first-team responsibility, the Englishman has instead remained mostly in the Premier League, making just ten appearances since the turn of the decade.

However Taylor’s experience and help with coaching make him a valuable asset to the Saints, and his announcement will have pleased many fans as he enters his twilight years.

Having not signed Mouez Hassen onto more than his expired loan deal, Taylor could make his Southampton debut this coming season if Alex McCarthy doesn’t return to full fitness.

However, the former Arsenal ‘keeper hasn’t played a minute in the top tier of English football since way back in the 2013/14 season, so whilst he may he fit he’ll certainly be rusty if he ever does make an appearance.

Whatever happens we can safely say that Southampton have – for now – won Twitter this transfer window.
