Southampton linked with move for Chelsea’s want-away Loic Remy

Southampton’s quest for a new striker could lead them to seasoned forward Loic Remy, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer.
According to the ever-reliable Sky sources, Southampton have joined a sizable list of clubs expressing interest in Frenchman Loic Remy.
The 30-year-old striker has struggled for fitness as of late, and having always played a back-seat role at Chelsea it’s believed he will seek a new employer this summer.
Remy initially moved to England in 2012 with Queens Park Rangers, and in the 18 months that passed he proved himself to a reliable, pacey striker with both the London club and with Newcastle.
This prompted Chelsea to activate his £10.5 million release clause in 2014, where despite his injuries he has boasted a solid minutes-per-goal ratio.
However last season he was loaned to Crystal Palace, but made just eight appearances in all competitions, without scoring.
As a result it’s believed that former employers Marseille and Everton are interested in bringing in the experienced forward, who has averaged a goal every three games across his 11-year professional career.
Southampton however are now reportedly set to rival the two aforementioned sides for the striker, who scored twice for the Blues yesterday in their pre-season game against Fulham.
Fitness issues and wages would be the key stumbling blocks for the Saints in their bid to bring in the forward, with his Chelsea contract sure to include an eye-watering wage.
However his ability to burst between the lines and make runs behind the defence could add a lot to the Southampton attack, with Shane Long perhaps losing a step or two last season.
