Southampton played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Brentford at Griffin Park this afternoon. Although fans will be buoyed to see the first goals of the Pellegrino era, there were other points to consider.

Many predicted that the new boss would start a mixture of first team regulars and young prospects for this match. However aside from the absence of a few key names, Pellegrino opted to field a strong starting lineup.

Aside from the most obvious and high profile absence, Ward-Prowse, Redmond, Clasie and Cedric were all left off the team sheet today. But those players who were included provided both positives and negatives for fans to take-away.
