Southampton lost out to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup second round in dire fashion, going down 2-0 to the Championship side at St. Mary’s.
The hosts never really took control of the game, and for large parts, it looked like they themselves were in the lower division of the two teams.
Pellegrino opted to play a 3-4-3/5-4-1 formation in a very experienced side that featured a spine of Forster, Yoshida, Romeu and Austin. Despite this they failed to create anything in the final third, looked on the back foot and laboured throughout.
