Yesterday Southampton suffered defeat at the hands of Watford, ending their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Two long-range efforts were enough to trump the Saints on the day, as Mauricio Pellegrino suffered his first loss in the Premier League.

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Daryl Janmaat were on the score-sheet either side of half-time, as the Saints fired blank once again. They’ve now gone three games without scoring – a worrying trend.

Several Southampton players under-performed and those who were decent enough were always isolated or closed down by Marco Silva’s men.

Wesley Hoedt got his debut next to Jack Stephens at the back and neither of the goals were arguably his fault, but at the of the day Saints have one win from four.
