Southampton 0-1 Manchester United: Three match takeaways

Southampton suffered their second league defeat of the season yesterday afternoon, losing 1-0 to an on-form Manchester United.

Despite valiant efforts from Mauricio Pellegrino’s men, the Saints couldn’t break down Jose Mourinho’s side, who scored early on through Romelu Lukaku.

In return Southampton couldn’t produce anything – with Oriol Romeu’s late chance perhaps being the side’s best of the entire game.

The result sees the Saints sit in 11th with Arsenal still to play beneath them – they face West Brom tomorrow evening on Monday Night Football.

However, despite the loss, Manchester United managed to score just once, having scored 16 in five games before the trip to St. Mary’s – there are positives to take from that.
