Strikers and Substitutes

Striker. Southampton. SHANE LONG. 6. Most important contribution to the game was to win the penalty. Like always, showed plenty of energy and willing running but his first touch often deserts him in promising areas. Lack of service for him and Gabbiadini, but it’s difficult to see him starting over Austin in the coming weeks.

8. Two really well taken goals with his only real scoring opportunities. Cleverly worked space for himself to slide Saints level after half-time, and emphatically scored his penalty for his second. Otherwise, the service he received was poor, but Saints are lucky to have someone of his ability.. Striker. Southampton. MANOLO GABBIADINI

6. Looked bright when he came on for Redmond and showed some nice bits of skill. However, his final ball and decision making after he’d beaten his markers was poor. He did track back well though and made a couple of tackles in the centre of the park.. 1st Substitute. Southampton. SOFIANE BOUFAL

Replaced Oriol Romeu with 20 minutes left and made an impact. Carried the ball forward well and played a couple of nice balls into the channels for the strikers. Made a vital goal-line clearance to save Saints a point at the death.. 2nd Substitute. Southampton. STEVEN DAVIS. 7

Southampton. CHARLIE AUSTIN. 5. Came on for the last ten and didn’t really get the chance to impose himself. When on form, can be Saints’ best goal poacher and he will be pushing for a starting role sooner rather than later.. 3rd Substitute
