Southampton took on the so-far impressive Newcastle on Sunday. Having to come from behind twice to salvage a point against the Toon.

The game offered quite a lot of insight for fans and manager Mauricio Pellegrino. This is due to change of formation and starting line-up.

What’s more, Southampton found the back of the net from open play on more than occasion for the first time this season, having only ever scored a single goal from open play so far in the campaign.

The main takeaway though, Pellegrino can only effect so much. The players had a real impact on the game, whether good or bad. Let’s go into detail.
