Midfielders

5.5. Romeu again played a bit of a back-seat role, sweeping up errors at the base of the diamond. He was the first sub too, coming off in the 69th minute. Far from a bad game but wasn’t influential.. Defensive-midfielder. Southampton. ORIOL ROMEU

7. Mario Lemina was deployed a wide centre-mid this week, meaning he had less chance to break forward down the middle than before. However, he won the ball back several times and has another decent game in red and white.. Centre-midfielder. Southampton. MARIO LEMINA

8. Steven Davis had a really good game for Southampton. He’s sometimes been below par this season, but this evening was an exception. He was involved a lot and connected midfield and attack. His corners were impressive, too.. Centre-midfielder. Southampton. STEVEN DAVIS

6. Dusan Tadic was initally deployed in his natural CAM role, but he often drifted out wide to try and create. He had a golden chance to score and in the resulting scramble went down too easily. He was far from bad, but again didn’t create a lot.. Centre-attacking midfielder. Southampton. DUSAN TADIC
