Virgil van Dijk

Whether we can say the same after January or not is still to be seen, but for now Van Dijk looks to be a mainstay in the Southampton defence, having started the last three.

The 26-year-old made six clearances, two interceptions and one block as he played the duration, forming an impressive partnership with Maya Yoshida.

He played the most passes of any Saints defender whilst maintaining an 81 percent accuracy, despite playing a handful of riskier, lofted balls to try and unpick the West Brom defence.

Some supporters are still questioning VVD’s commitment to the cause, but it’s difficult not to argue that this was his best performance in a Saints shirt this season.
