Steven Davis

In typical fashion, the Southampton captain enjoyed another consistent day at the office, playing as part of a three-man midfield alongside James Ward-Prowse and Oriol Romeu.

The Northern Irishman scored his second goal of the season early on, as he was the first to react as JWP’s free-kick cannoned off the post and back into the area.

But Davis’ performance stretched beyond his rebound goal, as he led the Saints in passing thanks to an average of 89.3 percent. The only Brighton man to record a better average was Dale Stephens. The 32-year-old also added a handful clearances to his game too.

With Lemina out with an ankle injury, a solid game from Davis was even more imperative yesterday.
