Southampton showed another abject display as they slipped to a disappointing 3-0 away defeat against Liverpool. Mohamed Salah scored twice in the first half, and Phillipe Coutinho completed the rout on 68 minutes.

Unlike the home display against Burnley last time out in the Premier League, Southampton found themselves dominated for the bulk of the game, with the Saints’ attacking play amounting to zero shots on target.

Southampton returned from the international break with a changed line-up, and fell behind when Dusan Tadic surrendered possession far too easily on the edge of the box, and Salah curled in a wonderful effort. The Egyptian then doubled the lead when woeful defending from Wesley Hoedt allowed him through to dink over Fraser Forster.

Southampton then fell three behind when a poor Forster parry from Roberto Firmino’s shot fell straight to the feet of Phillipe Coutinho, who made no mistake from close range. The blame must surely fall at the feet of Mauricio Pellegrino, whose management has been called into question by fans on Twitter.
