5. Captain Steven Davis let the game pass him by today, often outmuscled and outclassed by Liverpool’s midfield. Will need to up his game against Everton in Oriol Romeu’s absence.. Centre-midfield. Southampton. STEVEN DAVIS

5. Romeu, much like Van Dijk, again looked a shadow of his last season form as he picked up a one-game suspension with his fifth yellow card of the season. Was outclassed by Liverpool’s dynamic attack and failed to provide sufficient cover for the centre-back pairing.. Centre-midfield. Southampton. ORIOL ROMEU

Right-midfield. Southampton. DUSAN TADIC. 4. Tadic had an awful game yet again this afternoon, and it remains a mystery as to why he continues to feature in the starting XI. He created nothing throughout and looked weak when faced by Liverpool pressure.

Redmond failed to trouble Liverpool’s shaky backline, again failing to take advantage of his pace – which we saw a lot of last season, instead opting to pass backwards, killing any chance of a rare attack.. Left-midfield. Southampton. NATHAN REDMOND. 5

6. Boufal was again the bright spark in Southampton’s lacklustre attack, and could have scored early on in the second half when his fierce shot was blocked. His direct running and pace could have caused Liverpool problems if his teammates had been on top form.. Attacking-midfield. Southampton. SOFIANE BOUFAL
