Striker and subsitutes

4. Shane Long’s barren goalscoring run never looked like being broken and it’s possible to count the number of headers he won on one hand. If Pellegrino manages to keep his job until Sunday, he has to drop Long to the bench.. Striker. Southampton. SHANE LONG

4. Charlie Austin is certainly a divisive figure amongst Saints fans, but will have done his cause no favours when he was introduced for Dusan Tadic on 55 minutes. Austin failed to hold the ball up effectively – displaying some sloppy close control, as well as looking toothless in the air.. Striker (Substitute). Southampton. CHARLIE AUSTIN

Striker (Substitute). Southampton. MANOLO GABBIADINI. 4. Gabbiadini touched the ball four times in a brief 11 minute stint, failing to provide the impact Mauricio Pellegrino would have been looking for.

5. Ward-Prowse has been used as an impact sub by two consecutive managers now, and it’s not exactly clear why. He didn’t do an awful lot wrong after his introduction on 69 minutes but is completely the wrong type of player to bring on when chasing a game.. Centre-midfield (Substitute). Southampton. JAMES WARD-PROWSE
