Virgil van Dijk

The fact that we have lost 3-0 and a centre-half is one of the key players should prove how bad the attacking performance from Saints was. It’s fair to say the Dutchman had a lot to do and didn’t really make any huge mistakes.

A lot of focus was on Van Dijk today after the massive transfer scandal regarding the centre-back and Liverpool over the summer. If rumours are to be believed, he still may end up in Merseyside in the next year.

Van Dijk made more interceptions and clearances than any other Saints player and also boasts the best pass completion rate with 85%. Obviously statistics are pointless when you’ve been hammered 3-0 by another Premier League side, but it’s what the former=Celtic man has over any of his teammates.

He is still a world class centre-back, but it feels like he has already got his mind set on leaving the south coast, and after recent performances, who can really blame him?
