Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Calvert-Lewin is clearly a real talent who will shine for years to come in England’s top flight, but has only shown glimpses of this so far this season. The England Under-21 international has scored four goals in 14 appearances in league and cup this season, and scored in Everton’s UEFA Europa League qualifying campaign to help them through to the group stage.

Surprisingly, Calvert-Lewin has won an average of 3.8 aerial duels per game in the league this season, something Saints have been particularly poor at defending against (think Peter Crouch and Sam Vokes).

The young striker also has a tendency to run at the opposing backline, something we saw Southampton struggle with last time out with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

If David Unsworth and Everton can successfully exploit the youngster’s aerial ability in tandem with the expert delivery of Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Davy Klassen, etc. then the Toffees could have a recipe for success.
