Southampton 4-1 Everton: Three key players

Southampton impressed in their 4-1 win over Everton on Saturday to restore a level of positivity around St Mary’s stadium.

Dusan Tadic opened the scoring for Saints before Gylfi Sigurdsson’s curling effort drew Everton level before half-time.

However, a second-half double from Charlie Austin and a lovely strike from Steven Davis gave the home side the comprehensive win they deserved.

Southampton produced some excellent flowing football which has been well overdue following a poor start to the season, and this win will have lifted some of the pressure off of manager Mauricio Pellegrino.

The home side lined up in a slightly adapted 4-4-1-1 system after making three changes to their starting XI from the loss against Liverpool. James Ward-Prowse, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Charlie Austin came in for Nathan Redmond, the suspended Oriol Romeu and Shane Long.
