Southampton put up a brilliant fight away to Manchester City, but would lose the game 2-1 in heartbreaking fashion.

The Saints kept City out until early in the second-half when Virgil can Dijk sliced Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick into his own net. However, Saints showed great character to fight back, a levelled the game through Oriol Romeu 15 minutes from time.

The score would stay that way until Raheem Sterling curled home six minutes into stoppage time to leave the valiant Saints deflated.

The last two performances against Everton and City should give all involved with the club encouragement, and fans will be confident as their team head into the Sunday lunchtime clash against Bournemouth.
