Goalkeeper and Defenders

FRASER FORSTER. 8. The goalkeeper had one of his best games in recent memory, making a wealth of saves and collecting the ball from crosses well, although his parries could do with some work.. Goalkeeper. Southampton

Right-back. Southampton. JEREMY PIED. 6. Pied looked unsurprisingly off the pace in his first start of the season in the absence of Cedric Soares, letting the Bournemouth wingers past too easily and finding himself out of position too often.

VIRGIL VAN DJIK. 8. The Dutch defender looks to be improving in every game after returning from a long-term injury which kept him out for almost 8 months. Virgil won almost every header and looked impressive when playing out from the back.. Centre-back. Southampton

6. Hoedt had a mixed game at the back, looking solid defensively overall, but making a few small errors which could (and did) cost The Saints. It was also the ex-Lazio defender who surrendered possession in a vital area which led to the Cherries’ goal.. Centre-back. Southampton. WESLEY HOEDT

RYAN BERTRAND. 9. Bertrand was again electric down the left flank, getting up and down the pitch all game, supplying wonderful deliveries that Southampton fans have been baying for. The England international would have definitely been my man of the match.. Left-back. Southampton
