Yesterday afternoon Southampton came from behind to draw 1-1 with neighbours Bournemouth – Charlie Austin got his third in two games.

It marks the third game in succession in which the Saints are played with more intensity and purpose – there’s a long way to go but the Saints seem to have turned a corner.

Sloppy mistakes were still present though, with Wesley Hoedt losing possession and Jeremy Pied getting caught out which allowed Ryan Fraser to sweep home with 41 minutes on the clock.

The Saints piled on the pressure in the second half however, with a string of opportunities reaching their climax as Nathan Redmond pinged a low ball into Charlie Austin, who finished smartly.

Having been jeered all game by the Bournemouth faithful, Austin’s ‘calm down’ celebration seemed fitting.

The result means the Saints sit in 11th ahead of a game against fifth-placed Arsenal next weekend. Here are three match takeaways from yesterday’s draw.
