Yesterday Southampton were thumped 4-1 by former manager Claude Puel’s Leicester City, with three goals coming in the first half an hour or so.

Therefore, the ‘key players’ article was always going to be a struggle. The majority of the Saints’ players didn’t show up despite the fact that they should’ve gone into the game with plenty of confidence following the draw with Arsenal.

After three or four solid performances, the Saints reverted back to the standard of play that saw supporters call for Pellegrino’s sacking a month or so again.

The mood around the club is pretty low going into the game away at Chelsea this weekend, with the fans swiftly losing faith in their manager’s selection choice and tactics.

Dropping Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for Steven Davis proved to be the wrong decision by the 46-year-old, whilst Dusan Tadic remained in the line-up and struggled to create anything once again.

But among the disappointment, which Southampton players – if any – deserve recognition for their work yesterday?
