Southampton 1-4 Leicester City: Match takeaways
By Edward Waugh
Following this defeat, the hierarchy at Southampton need to change a lot. Mostly with the squad of players, and possibly manager if these performances and result continue.
This was easily the lowest Southampton have gone this season, in what has been a shambolic season so far. Sitting 11th in the Premier League is extremely flattering given the manner of many of Saints’ performances.
Personally, if Pellegrino cannot muster a positive result before the end of the calendar year, he should be let go. His in-ability to make big selection calls, take tactical risks and still be outplayed when being safe has been infuriating for the Southampton faithful. With the players being partly, if not more to blame, it is clear that Pellegrino is out of his depth in managing them.
Likewise, being mentioned in the previous match takeaway post, Saints currently do not have the squad to hurt teams or be difficult to beat. Back to front the team is not up to scratch. Having not kept a clean sheet since late October is awful. Despite Charlie Austin being on-fire too, the team still look toothless at times.
