Chelsea 1-0 Southampton: Player ratings

FRASER FORSTER. 7.5. Had a very good game, but unfortunately he got his footing all wrong at a critical moment just before half time.  Expecting a right-footed free kick from Willian, he was late getting over for Alonso’s strike, and it ended up being the difference in the game.  Sadly, that is all fans will remember.. Southampton. RYAN BERTRAND. 7. Walked off in extra time after mouthing to the sideline that he had done his hamstring.  This is not good news at all for one of the most consistent Saints.  Enjoys playing the wing back role when five are stationed in the back.  Made very positive runs forward again connecting with Redmond and Boufal.. Left full-back

4.5. Had a really difficult time keeping simple possession from the get go.  Gave some shockingly bad passes away near midfield to allow Chelsea to counter.  Defended reasonably well in the defensive third.. Centre-Back. Southampton. JACK STEPHENS

Southampton. MAYA YOSHIDA. 7.5. After looking bad against Leicester midweek, he captained the team, and may have been the best player on Southampton. Made a number of big blocks, and cut out slip passes intended for Hazard. Most impressively he played 45 minutes on a yellow. Would have had a higher rating had he not caused the foul that set up the game-winning free kick.. Centre-Back

6.5. Was a solid part of the back three, but was not involved as much as his partners. Forced long balls too often when the team was just building possession.. Centre-Back. Southampton. WESLEY HOEDT

Southampton. CEDRIC SOARES. 5. It was tough to see him leave just 16 minutes in, after literally hitting a wall.  Hopefully it is nothing major, but he tried to play through it and could not.. Right full-back
