Fraser Forster

Forster’s performance was a largely good one with a number of important saves to keep Chelsea from going further ahead in the game.

However, it was his mistake that allowed the home side to get ahead just before half-time.

Marcos Alonso’s free-kick was well struck and would find the net right inside the post, but the free-kick was taken from around 30 yards from goal and really shouldn’t have beaten Forster.

He was slow across his goal and slow down to the ball, which should have been easily reached and turned wide. Analysis on Match of the Day showed that Forster wasn’t paying attention as the ball was struck, and that Saints’ defensive wall was put in the wrong position.

These sort of mistakes are costing Saints valuable points which could crucial come the end of the season.
