Midfielders

It was nice to see Romeu look like his former self again with a solid performance just in front of the defense. Most of his tackles were won and the midfielder remained solid as United offloaded a lot of pressure on Saints. Some of the balls weren’t brilliant but overall the Spaniard look like his normal self in a brilliant defensive performance.. Defensive midfielder. Southampton. ORIOL ROMEU. 7

8. Another brilliant display from Hojbjerg since his inclusion in the team a month ago played a huge part in the clean sheet against United. The Dane looked solid, sharp and tried his best to help out going forward. His passing was crisp and precise and didn’t give the ball away easily which may’ve been the case on Boxing Day.. Defensive midfielder. Southampton. PIERRE-EMILE HOJBJERG

JAMES WARD-PROWSE. 7. The midfielder was great once again and fully warrants a regular starting place after that performance. Ward-Prowse was unlucky not to score early on when his low shot was tipped behind by the brilliant David de Gea. Deliveries from the midfielder were pinpoint as well and definitely threatened the United defense; it was a shame that he didn’t get a free-kick in decent range.. Right-winger. Southampton

Southampton. SOFIANE BOUFAL. 7. Boufal was once again tricky to handle for the United fullbacks but still lacks in end product. Crosses were dangerous from the Moroccan and he gets into decent positions to shoot but chooses the pass instead of having a crack. If he can contribute better in scoring goals and/or assisting them then we have a real player on our hands.. Left-winger

Tadic wasn’t bad but…wasn’t really good either. He missed a header in a decent position to score and didn’t really contribute with crosses either. At the moment there isn’t really anyone better on the bench to replace the midfielder but end product is still lacking from the Serbian’s game this season.. Center-attacking midfielder. Southampton. DUSAN TADIC. 6
