Southampton slid to an extremely worrying 2-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening.

The result sees them sit outside the Premier League’s relegation zone on goal difference after a run of just one win in nine matches and no signs of improving form.

Shane Long’s first goal in 1320 minutes of football put Saints in front at half-time, but a second-half fightback from away side Palace saw them take all three points.

Manager Mauricio Pellegrino’s job looks almost untenable at this stage as his side seriously under-perform, and it remains to be seen if he will remain at the club. January signings will be vital to the club battling their way away from the bottom of the table.
