Southampton: How the five rumoured signings could help the Saints
By Marc Walker
Theo Walcott
Walcott has been linked with both permanent and loan moves back to St. Mary’s, where he began his career 13 years ago.
Following a tough start to the season and Southampton fans being critical of the loyalty of past players, the well-respected Englishman could provide a boost for the whole club.
Walcott is blessed with terrific pace from wide, which is something that Saints have missed since Sadio Mane’s transfer to Liverpool.
He provides a fair amount of versatility too after being deployed on the right-wing, left-wing and up-front over his career. His ability to play all of these positions makes him a potentially good fit for a misfiring Saints attack in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
With 108 goals and 78 assists in 398 Arsenal games, it is clear to see that Walcott could be the creative boost that propels Southampton away from the bottom of the table.
The 2018 World Cup is likely to be one of the last major tournaments that he could go to with England, so Walcott will be needing to play as much as possible before June to get into Gareth Southgate’s squad.
