Stuart Armstrong

Armstrong was a supposed transfer target for Southampton in the summer, and his name has been mentioned again during this window.

The Scottish midfielder started his career with Dundee United before moving to Scottish Premier League giants Celtic.

For a reported price of £10 million, Armstrong could provide a much needed goal threat from central areas for Saints. A lack of attacking threat from midfield has long been a criticism of Saints’ style, and if this was added, it could ease the scoring burden on their strikers.

Armstrong has scored 48 times and assisted a further 55 goals in Scotland, and could be interested in testing himself in the Premier League.

Southampton have had success with signings from Celtic in the past, with Victor Wanyama, Fraser Forster and Virgil van Dijk all transferring south of the border.
