Southampton 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur: Three key players

Southampton battled to a good point against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and gave themselves a solid base to build from in upcoming games.

Davinson Sanchez’s own goal from a Ryan Bertrand cross put Southampton ahead after 15 minutes, but Harry Kane equalised for the away side just three minutes later.

After falling into the Premier League’s bottom three following other results, it was important that the team put in a fighting display to give themselves and the fans a lift. They did just that, and could even have taken the three points in the second-half.

The match saw a return to the starting line-up for Manolo Gabbiadini, and a debut for 17-year-old Michael Obafemi as he came on from the bench late on.

The team looked a lot more solid than it has been, and every player in a red and white shirt gave everything to see out the result. The home clash with Brighton on the 31st will always be a vital match, but Saints can be confident if they start putting together a good run of form.
