Ryan Bertrand

Bertrand was given the captain’s armband for this game, and that seemed to help him with his performance.

His runs beyond Dusan Tadic on the left flank were important in creating opportunities and getting in behind the Spurs defence. It was his cross that led to Davinson Sanchez deflecting the ball into his own goal.

As one of the most experienced players at the club and one of the key players in the Saints defence, perhaps Bertrand can provide the leadership to help him and his teammates away from the bottom of the table.
