Failure to capitalize

Irregardless of Tottenham’s position in the league, they put on a relatively poor showing at St. Mary’s yesterday.

Outside of Harry Kane’s initial header and his slashed chance at the death, Mauricio Pochettino’s side didn’t enjoy a huge amount of goal-mouth action, which comes as a surprise after the 5-2 romp on Boxing Day.

Southampton fans knew going into the game that Hugo Lloris was almost certainly set to miss out, and playmaker Christan Eriksen was also absent through illness.

Whilst Michel Worm is a more than reputable back-up, Southampton should’ve done a lot better to challenge his goal and take full of advantage of the fact that Tottenham weren’t firing on all cylinders. But they didn’t.

The Saints have given up over a dozen points from winning positions this season and whilst their goal had a touch of good fortune, they should’ve done better to hold onto the lead.

That being said, several players enjoyed good days at the office yesterday, most notably Ryan Bertrand and James Ward-Prowse.
