What happened to Nathan Redmond?

A complete lack of confidence is what happened…

This is where Mauricio Pellegrino is failing as a manager.  The mentality of his players, and tactical understanding of how to work together is being lost.  Nathan Redmond is a prime example of this.

Since coming over from Norwich in 2016, Redmond has been a staple in Southampton’s starting eleven.  Regardless of his form in 2017/18, it’s undeniable the 23 year old has talent.

His pace and 1v1 ability are incredibly hard to deal with.  When confident, he takes players on, and breezes past them with ease, even though the whole league knows he is relatively one-footed.

Redmond’s last appearance was coming on as a sub against Fulham in the FA Cup.  In the last five games, three times he has been left out of the side entirely.

The regression of a young England International should have Les Reed seeing red flags in his nightmares.  Does anyone remember how good Redmond was at Wembley last year?  Claude Puel developed youth, Mauricio Pellegrino cannot.

If Southampton is to succeed in the final part of 2017/18, they need this guy to get his mojo back, and sitting behind an inept Dusan Tadic is never going to help.
